Sloan Fine Art proudly presents the opening of Eric Finzi: Emotion, the exhibition showcases Finzi’s mixed media and epoxy resin paintings as well as three new large-scale installations, all centering on a single subject: Augustine, the documented patient of neurologist Professor Jean-Martin Charcot at the notorious Salpêtrière Hospital. Institutionalized for hysteria in the 1870s, the young woman was, for many years, the subject of experimental treatments and lenghty photographic documentation of her episodic outbursts. After several years of incarceration, Augustine disguised herself as a man and escaped the psychiatric ward, never to be seen again.

CUBART: Contemporary Cuban Art

CUBART: Contemporary Cuban Art is a nod to the XI Havana Biennial, which took place in 2012. CUBART will present an overview of contemporary Cuban artistic practices and aims to draw attention to the influence or importance that the political climate has on the artistic statements. Like this exhibition, the XI Biennial addressed the relationship between visual productions and social imaginaries and how people express themselves through cultural and historical references and through art.

The exhibition features works by Cuban artists: Alexandre Arrechea, Abel Barroso, Luis Enrique Camejo, J. Roberto Diago, Jose Manuel Fors, KCHO, Pedro Pablo Oliva, Sandra Ramos, and Jose Angel Toirac.

Before They Were Famous:
Behind The Lens of William John Kennedy

American photographer William John Kennedy’s exhibition of newly published prints of Andy Warhol and Robert Indiana is believed to be the only such images in existence capturing the artists with their works, among them Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe and Indiana’s LOVE. After almost half a century in storage, a select number of the nearly forgotten images were carefully chosen, and are now being published for the first time as a collection.
